Wedding Venues

Is your dream wedding a small intimate affair or a giant, lavish production?  The answer to this question may help you when searching for wedding venues.  Next to searching for wedding dresses and bridesmaids dresses, searching for your wedding venue is one of the most important aspects of wedding planning.  There are several things you should consider when looking for a wedding venue.

How many guests are you expecting?  How mobile are they?  Obviously, if you are having a very large wedding, you need a venue that will be large enough to accommodate all your guests.  Also, consider who will be attending your wedding.  While beach weddings are beautiful in the summer and it may be perfect otherwise; if you are having quite a few elderly guests with possible mobility issues, you may want to reconsider the beach.

Will you be having a religious ceremony?  If so, the wedding itself might have to be held in a place of worship.  Check with your particular church or religious establishment on restrictions they may have.  If you must use a place of worship, be sure to book that and your officiant prior to booking your reception venue.  If you and your fiance are of different religions, you may want to consider a neutral location, such as a reception hall, to hold the actual ceremony.

How much work are you willing, able or want to do?  If you are choosing to do-it-yourself when it comes to your wedding, consider how much time and effort it will require to transform your bare bones venue into the beautiful wedding venue you envision.  Things to consider would be setting up chairs and tables, decorating the venue, and, worst of all, clean up after the event.  These are things most couples DO NOT want to worry about on their actual wedding day.  If you are having a small intimate wedding and your friends and family are willing to pitch in, then a do-it-yourself wedding at your dream location may be the way to go.  Just keep in mind that many times you end up spending as much money doing it yourself as if you had hired a wedding planner.  Most wedding planners have a huge list of local vendors that generally give them contracted prices.  Therefore, many times you end up paying the same amount of money by using a wedding planner, but without all the headaches.

Unique location or standard reception hall?  While a unique location such as a beautiful botanical garden or possibly an old barn might appeal to your style, consider the fact that most venues of this type require additional decorations and rentals.  Most reception halls have everything you need and the prices include putting everything together, taking everything apart and clean up.

Take a look at the photos below for some great ideas on different types of wedding venues.  All are beautiful in their own way.  Almost anyplace can be a great wedding venue if the location suits your style and budget.
